The Senate on Tuesday approved three concurrence bills forwarded by the House of Representatives and also moved forward a proposal to establish a Federal Medical Centre in Arugungu, Kebbi State.
The approved bills include the Federal Road Safety Corps (Amendment) Bill, 2026, the Federal University of Medical Laboratory Science and Technology, Jos (Establishment) Bill, 2026, and the Federal Universities of Technology (Amendment) Bill, 2026.

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele presented the bills during plenary, urging lawmakers to support their passage. The Senate, sitting as the Committee of the Whole, unanimously adopted all three bills.
Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who presided over the session, praised members of the chamber for their cooperation and commitment throughout the legislative process.

The upper chamber also passed for second reading a bill seeking to amend the Federal Medical Centres Act to establish a Federal Medical Centre in Arugungu, Kebbi State.
Speaking during the debate, Senator Abubakar Abdullahi said the proposed medical facility would improve access to quality healthcare for residents and help reduce the increasing number of Nigerians travelling abroad for medical treatment.

He stressed that strengthening healthcare infrastructure across the country is essential to providing better medical services and reducing dependence on foreign hospitals.

Abdullahi described the proposed medical centre as an important project that would benefit people in Kebbi State and surrounding communities. Following broad support from lawmakers, the bill passed its second reading and was referred to the Senate Committee on Health for further legislative consideration.
