SOWORE REMANDED TO KUJE PRISON FOR CYBERCRIME BY COURT

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending further proceedings in his ongoing legal case.

Justice Mohammed Umar gave the order on Monday while ruling on a motion related to a request for stay of execution concerning the revocation of Sowore’s bail and an earlier bench warrant issued against him.

The judge directed that Sowore remain in custody until the court hears and determines the application filed by his new lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, which seeks to halt the enforcement of the bail revocation order.

The case was adjourned until June 24 for hearing of the pending application.

It was recalled that the court had earlier revoked Sowore’s bail on June 16 after he failed to appear for his defence in the ongoing trial, leading to the issuance of a bench warrant for his arrest.

Sowore had previously chosen to represent himself after his legal team withdrew from the case.

In a related ruling on Monday, Justice Umar also dismissed a motion seeking his disqualification from the case over allegations of bias.
