President Bola Tinubu has forwarded the nomination of Dr Zainab Marwa to the Senate for screening and confirmation as a member of the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
If confirmed, Marwa will represent the North-East geopolitical zone on the commission’s board, replacing Abdulrazak Namdas, who resigned from the position in March 2026 to pursue his governorship ambition in Adamawa State.

The nomination was conveyed in a letter addressed to the Senate and read during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
In the communication, President Tinubu stated that the appointment was made in line with the provisions of the NDDC Establishment Act and is intended to restore the North-East’s representation on the commission’s governing board.
He noted that filling the vacant position is necessary to maintain the continuity of the board’s activities and ensure that the geopolitical zone remains adequately represented in the affairs of the commission.

Following the presentation of the request, the Senate President referred the nomination to the Senate Committee on NDDC for screening and further legislative consideration.
The committee was directed to complete its review and submit its report to the Senate within two weeks.

Established in 2000, the Niger Delta Development Commission serves as a federal intervention agency responsible for addressing developmental and environmental challenges in Nigeria’s oil-producing communities.

The commission is tasked with planning and implementing projects aimed at improving infrastructure, healthcare, education, water supply, electricity, environmental sustainability and overall socio-economic development across the Niger Delta region.
Its governing board plays a key role in providing policy direction and oversight for the agency’s operations and development programmes.
