President Bola Tinubu is set to personally attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York this September, marking his return to the annual global summit after being absent from the last two sessions.

During the previous two editions of the General Assembly, Nigeria was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, announced the President’s planned participation after a meeting with Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.

According to the ambassador, President Tinubu will use the international gathering to present Nigeria’s key priorities, with a major focus on strengthening cooperation to improve border security across West Africa in response to rising security threats in the region.

He added that Nigeria will also engage with global leaders on issues relating to energy, education and healthcare, with the aim of securing stronger international partnerships to support national development and regional stability.

Ibrahim noted that the UN General Assembly remains an important platform for Nigeria to deepen diplomatic relations and promote discussions on matters affecting both the country and the African continent.
