President Bola Tinubu has expressed confidence that Nigeria will soon overcome its security challenges, especially those affecting the northern region, stating that his administration has adopted decisive measures to tackle criminal activities across the country.
The President made the remarks on Saturday in Kaduna during the Third Late General Hassan Usman Katsina Memorial Conference. He was represented at the event by his Special Adviser on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Masari.
While paying tribute to the late General Hassan Usman Katsina, Tinubu described him as a patriotic leader whose humility, discipline, and dedication to national service contributed significantly to Nigeria’s unity and development.
He noted that the former military governor of the defunct Northern Region and former Chief of Army Staff played a key role in strengthening the country during critical periods of its history, adding that his legacy continues to inspire national progress.
The President assured Nigerians that his administration remains committed to restoring peace and ensuring lasting security across the country.
According to him, ongoing security efforts will soon yield positive results, particularly in regions affected by insurgency and other forms of criminality.
Tinubu also highlighted several achievements of his administration in education, infrastructure, transportation, and the energy sector.
He said the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has enabled more than one million students to access higher education through financial assistance, while the removal of tertiary institutions from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) has strengthened university autonomy and promoted industrial harmony.
The President added that the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has financed the construction of classrooms, laboratories, hostels, and research facilities across the country, alongside investments in teacher training, technical education, and a new national curriculum.
He also disclosed that new federal universities and polytechnics have been established in different parts of Nigeria to expand access to higher education.
On infrastructure, Tinubu said work is progressing on major road projects, including the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway, the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway, the Sokoto–Zamfara–Kaduna Road, and the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe Road to improve connectivity and stimulate economic growth.
In the power sector, he highlighted ongoing projects such as the Kaduna Power Station, the 40-megawatt Kumbotso High Voltage Power Project, the rehabilitation of the 215-megawatt Kaduna Power Plant, and the installation of more than 1,500 solar-powered streetlights and 50 mini-grids to improve electricity access in rural communities.
Tinubu further announced that the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Kaduna has been upgraded to a full-fledged university named after General Hassan Usman Katsina, adding that the institution is over 90 percent completed and has already commenced academic activities.
He also revealed that construction of the 1,350-megawatt Gwagwalada Independent Power Plant is underway to improve electricity supply in Northern Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory, while renewable energy projects are being expanded to serve off-grid communities.
On transportation, the President said work is advancing on the Kaduna–Kano Rail Line and the Kano–Maradi Rail Project. He added that funding has been secured for the Kaduna and Kano Light Rail projects, while rehabilitation of the Abuja Metro Rail and improvements to the Abuja–Kaduna train service are also in progress.
Tinubu said these initiatives demonstrate his administration’s commitment to improving security, strengthening infrastructure, expanding economic opportunities, and driving sustainable national development.
