ZELENSKY SACKS UKRAINE AMBASSADOR TO U.S

Ukraine has recalled its ambassador to the United States, Olha Stefanishyna, as Kyiv continues efforts to secure additional military assistance from Washington.

Stefanishyna said her time in Washington had been focused on strengthening Ukraine’s relationship with the United States, especially at a time when political support in Washington was becoming more uncertain.

“We increased the supply of American weapons and maintained support precisely when the political climate in Washington was shifting against us,” she said.

The former deputy prime minister and justice minister was appointed ambassador in July last year. Her role has been particularly important as Ukraine continues to rely heavily on US military aid and intelligence support in its war against Russia.

Relations between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump have experienced periods of tension, although recent engagements have suggested an improvement in ties.

According to Ukrainian media, Stefanishyna is currently being investigated by the country’s anti-corruption agency over allegations of misconduct. However, she has not been formally charged with any offence.

President Zelensky, who carried out a cabinet reshuffle in July, has yet to announce her replacement.

Her departure comes as Ukraine intensifies diplomatic efforts to convince the United States to provide more Patriot air defence missile systems to help defend against ongoing Russian attacks.

In a Facebook post, Stefanishyna shared a letter requesting to be relieved of her duties, explaining that the decision was based on personal reasons.

She described her appointment as Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States as “the greatest honour” of her life.
