A cholera outbreak has reportedly claimed the lives of nine fighters belonging to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the Timbuktu Triangle, one of the group’s strongholds in Borno State.

Intelligence sources revealed that the disease has spread across several ISWAP camps in the area, highlighting poor sanitary conditions and limited access to healthcare within the terrorist enclaves.
According to the sources, two additional fighters who contracted cholera were allegedly executed by members of the group after attempts to treat them at Kimba village proved unsuccessful.

The incident is said to reflect the worsening health situation within the insurgent camps, where ongoing military operations have disrupted supply routes, making it increasingly difficult for the group to obtain medicines and access medical treatment.

The intelligence sources also noted that security commanders have been encouraged to intensify efforts to intercept medical supplies and pharmaceutical products intended for terrorist camps in order to further reduce the group’s ability to treat its members and sustain its operations.
