FCCPC resolves 15,000 consumer complaints in Lagos
The Lagos Zonal Office of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has resolved about 15,000 consumer complaints received through its online and offline channels.
The Zonal Coordinator of the FCCPC Lagos Office, Dr Olubunmi Otti, disclosed this during an interactive session with journalists at the Commission’s office in Ikeja.
Otti said about 17,000 complaints had so far been submitted through the Commission’s online portal or directly to its Lagos zonal office, with approximately 15,000 cases already resolved.
She explained that consumers have the right to seek redress when products or services fail to meet expected standards.
According to her, consumers are expected to first engage the service provider and attempt to resolve the issue. Where they are dissatisfied with the response, they can escalate the complaint to the FCCPC through its website or by visiting its Lagos office.
Otti said complaints could be submitted through the FCCPC’s online complaints portal or physically at its office located at 17 Oremeta Street, Opebi Link Bridge Road, off Oregun Road, Ikeja.
She stressed that complainants must provide sufficient details to enable the Commission to investigate and resolve their cases.
These include the address and location of the service provider, receipts or other evidence of purchase, the amount involved and the specific redress being sought.
Otti said the Commission’s resolution of the complaints was primarily aimed at protecting consumers and ensuring that businesses comply with fair trading practices.
She encouraged consumers who encounter problems with goods or services to exercise their right to complain and seek appropriate redress through the FCCPC.
