Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has criticised former Anambra State governor and 2027 presidential hopeful Peter Obi following comments made by the opposition politician in a recent interview.
Onanuga described Obi as “clueless,” “overhyped” and “overrated” while questioning his record in government and his suitability for the presidency.
The presidential aide made the remarks in a post on Saturday while reacting to a video in which Obi discussed the removal of fuel subsidy by the Tinubu administration and the management of the proceeds.
Onanuga argued that Obi lacked the governance record required of someone seeking to lead the country at the federal level. He also criticised the former governor over what he described as changes in his positions on important policy issues.
According to Onanuga, Obi’s political views are heavily influenced by his supporters on social media.
He further questioned the expectation among Obi’s supporters that the former governor could dramatically transform the country if elected president, arguing that governing a nation requires more than popularity.
The exchange comes as political activities intensify ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, with politicians and political groups increasingly debating the records and policies of potential contenders.
