AIG JIMOH RECEIVES SECURITY LEADERSHIP AWARD, VOWS TO STRENGTHEN POLICING IN LAGOS, OGUN

Adewole explained that the recognition was given to Jimoh in appreciation of his leadership, professionalism and commitment to accountable policing, both during his tenure as Lagos Commissioner of Police and in his current position as AIG of Zone 2.

He highlighted the recovery of over 115 stolen vehicles, the prosecution of suspected cult members and the peaceful security situation recorded during major festive periods as notable achievements under Jimoh’s leadership.

According to Adewole, the deployment of 250 police personnel and 50 tactical vehicles to strategic areas also improved the command’s ability to respond quickly to security incidents across parts of Lagos.

In his response, Jimoh said the award should be seen as a collective achievement of the officers and personnel serving under his command. He urged them not to relax but to use the recognition as motivation to further improve their service to Nigerians.

The AIG said his previous experience as Lagos Commissioner of Police had provided him with a strong understanding of the security challenges in Lagos and Ogun states.

He described both states as critical to Nigeria’s economic development because of their significant commercial and industrial activities. He added that protecting major transportation and economic corridors linking the two states would remain a priority.

Jimoh disclosed that Zone 2 had adopted various strategies aimed at preventing crime, safeguarding critical infrastructure and improving public safety. He said intelligence-led policing would be strengthened, particularly along major routes connecting Lagos and Ogun.

The AIG also praised residents for their continued support and cooperation with security agencies, noting that information supplied by members of the public had helped the police prevent and detect criminal activities.

He encouraged residents to maintain the partnership while reporting police misconduct and other operational concerns through appropriate channels.

Jimoh advised individuals with complaints or petitions against police officers, including senior personnel, to formally submit them to the relevant authorities so they could be properly investigated and addressed.

He further stated that the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, had introduced measures focused on improving police-community relations, strengthening officers’ training and rebuilding public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.

According to him, Zone 2 would continue to work closely with communities and other stakeholders through community policing and partnership initiatives to improve security and deepen public trust.

Rights activist Segun Awosanya, popularly known as Segalink, also commended Jimoh, describing the award as well deserved.

Awosanya attributed the relative peace in Lagos to teamwork, intelligence-driven policing and stronger engagement between the police and the public.

He noted that the police were a reflection of the society they served and said existing internal accountability structures should be used to address misconduct regardless of an officer’s rank.

He stressed that effective policing would require continued cooperation between security agencies and citizens, supported by credible intelligence, active community participation and accountability.
