AIG JIMOH VOWS TO STRENGTHEN SECURITY AND INTELLIGENCE-LED POLICING IN LAGOS, OGUN

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2 Command, Olorundare Jimoh, has assured residents of Lagos and Ogun states that the police will continue to strengthen security operations and adopt intelligence-driven strategies to combat crime.

Jimoh gave the assurance in Lagos while receiving the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Integrity Youth Alliance, Abuja, Kehinde Adewole, who visited the Zone 2 headquarters in Onikan to present him with the organisation’s “Outstanding Excellence in Security Leadership Award 2026.”

Adewole said the award was presented in recognition of Jimoh’s leadership, professionalism and commitment to accountability and effective policing.

He highlighted several achievements linked to Jimoh’s tenure as Lagos Commissioner of Police and his current role as AIG, including the recovery of more than 115 stolen vehicles, the prosecution of suspected cult members and the maintenance of peaceful conditions during major festive periods.

Adewole also praised the deployment of 250 police personnel and 50 tactical vehicles to strategic areas, saying the move had strengthened police response to security incidents in parts of Lagos.

In his response, Jimoh said the recognition belonged not only to him but also to the police officers and other personnel working under his command.

He urged officers to view the award as motivation to work harder and remain committed to protecting lives and property.

The AIG noted that his previous experience as Lagos Commissioner of Police had given him first-hand knowledge of the security challenges confronting both Lagos and Ogun.

He described the two states as economically important because of their commercial and industrial activities, stressing that protecting the major transportation and economic routes linking them remained a key priority.

Jimoh said Zone 2 was intensifying intelligence-led policing to prevent criminal activities, safeguard critical infrastructure and improve public safety.

He also praised residents for their continued cooperation with security agencies, particularly by providing information that has assisted in preventing and investigating crimes.

The AIG encouraged members of the public to report incidents of police misconduct through the appropriate channels, assuring them that legitimate complaints would be properly investigated.

He further advised anyone with petitions against police officers, including senior officers, to formally submit them to the relevant authorities for appropriate action.

Jimoh said the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, had continued to support initiatives aimed at strengthening community policing, improving officers’ training and rebuilding public confidence in the force.

He pledged that Zone 2 would maintain regular engagement with communities and other stakeholders as part of efforts to improve security and strengthen trust between the police and residents of Lagos and Ogun.

Also speaking, human rights advocate Segun Awosanya, popularly known as Segalink, described the award as deserving.

Awosanya attributed the relative peace in Lagos to teamwork, intelligence-based policing and improved cooperation between security agencies and members of the public.

He added that the police remained a reflection of the society they serve, noting that the force has internal mechanisms for addressing misconduct regardless of the rank of the officer involved.
