ALIMOSHO RACE OPENS: VETERAN JOURNALIST NIFEMI KAZEEM JOINS ASSEMBLY BATTLE

Seasoned journalist, broadcaster, and entrepreneur, Oluwanifemi Kazeem, has officially declared her intention to contest for Alimosho Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly under the All Progressives Congress.

Kazeem made the announcement on Wednesday after concluding consultations with party leaders across the constituency, signaling her entry into what is expected to be a competitive race.

Speaking to journalists, she said her decision was driven by growing calls from residents for a new kind of representation—one that is younger, more accessible, and focused on development.

She promised to prioritise effective representation and maintain an open-door approach that allows constituents to actively engage in decisions affecting their communities.

“I am coming into the race with a full understanding of the constituency, the workings of the state legislature, and the diverse interests of our people,” she said.

Describing Alimosho Constituency I as one of the most politically significant areas in Lagos, Kazeem highlighted its large voting population, particularly among women, and stressed the importance of stronger female representation.

“Women should have a stronger voice in our constituency, and I am ready to serve as that voice,” she added.

Kazeem also pointed to her background as a factor shaping her ambition. She comes from a politically active family—her father, Alhaji M. Kazeem, is a known figure in local politics, while her mother, Olabisi Kazeem, previously served as a councillor.

Raised in Abule Oki, Iyana Ipaja, she had her early education in Alimosho before proceeding to Olabisi Onabanjo University. She also received professional training at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria Training School.

With over two decades of experience in the media industry, she has worked with organisations such as Daar Communications Plc, Television Continental, and City People Magazine.

She noted that her extensive coverage of the Lagos State House of Assembly over the years has given her a deep understanding of governance, policymaking, and community engagement—experience she believes will guide her if elected.
