The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed Murtala Garo as the new deputy governor of the state following his successful screening.
The decision was taken during Monday’s plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Falgore, after lawmakers considered and adopted the report of an ad hoc committee set up to review the nomination.
Presenting the report, the committee chairman and Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Bello, explained that Garo’s nomination came after the resignation of the former deputy governor, Aminu Gwarzo. He noted that the process was carried out in line with Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers the Assembly to approve a replacement in the event of a vacancy.

According to the committee, Garo underwent a detailed screening process, which included questions on his academic background, professional experience, understanding of governance, and plans for the state. His credentials were also thoroughly verified.
The committee stated that the nominee demonstrated a clear grasp of the responsibilities of the office and outlined a vision to support Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration.
Based on its findings, the committee recommended his confirmation, which the House subsequently approved without opposition after the Speaker put it to a voice vote.
The development was also confirmed by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Information, Ibrahim Adam, who disclosed that the Assembly had officially endorsed Garo’s appointment as deputy governor.
