GHANA NAME VETERAN QUEIROZ FOR WORLD CUP

The Ghana Football Association has appointed veteran Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 73-year-old, who has previously managed clubs and national teams across multiple continents, takes over from Otto Addo, who was dismissed following Ghana’s 2-1 friendly defeat to Germany.

Queiroz, who once served as assistant manager at Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson and also coached Real Madrid, is expected to begin work immediately as he prepares the Black Stars for the tournament scheduled to kick off on June 11.

The Ghana FA confirmed his appointment in a statement but did not disclose details of his contract duration beyond the World Cup campaign.

This appointment marks Queiroz’s ninth national team role, having previously managed countries including Portugal, Iran, Colombia, Egypt, UAE, South Africa, Qatar, and Oman. He has also featured in multiple World Cup tournaments, including editions with Portugal and Iran.

Ghana will compete in Group L at the 2026 World Cup, where they are set to face England, Croatia, and Panama in the tournament jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The federation expressed confidence that Queiroz’s vast international experience will help strengthen the team’s preparation and performance on the global stage.
