NDC COURTS OBI AND KWANKWASO WITH PRESIDENTIAL TICKET AHEAD OF PRIMARY DEADLINE

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on two prominent opposition figures, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, to join its platform and contest the 2027 general elections under its banner.

In a post shared on X on Sunday, the party hinted at a limited window for the two politicians to make their move, suggesting they could secure its presidential ticket if they join within two weeks. The post was accompanied by an image of Obi and Kwankwaso shaking hands, with the caption, “Nigeria will be OK,” sparking fresh political discussions online.

The appeal comes amid growing conversations about a possible alliance between supporters of both politicians. Recently, a group backing Obi and Kwankwaso launched the “OK Movement,” aimed at building momentum for a potential joint ticket ahead of 2027.

The movement has since begun setting up its leadership structure across national, zonal, and state levels, signalling early preparations for the next election cycle.

Meanwhile, the broader opposition landscape continues to face uncertainty. The African Democratic Congress is currently dealing with internal leadership disputes that could affect its strength going into the elections. A related court case involving rival factions is still pending judgment.

On the electoral front, the Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed May 30, 2026, as the deadline for political parties to submit candidate lists and membership registers for the 2027 elections.

However, several opposition parties, including factions of the ADC, the Peoples Democratic Party, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party, have urged INEC to extend the timeline, arguing that the current schedule may put them at a disadvantage.

As the political space gradually heats up, discussions around alliances and party realignments are expected to intensify in the coming months.
