MILITARY RESCUES 25 KIDNAP VICTIMS IN KATSINA, ZAMFARA OPERATIONS

Nigerian troops have rescued 25 people, including women and children, during separate operations targeting terrorists and kidnappers in Katsina and Zamfara states.

The operations were carried out by troops of Operation Fansan Yamma, with the Joint Task Force (North-West) confirming the successful rescue of the victims.

According to the Media Information Officer of the task force, Lieutenant-Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of Sector 1 encountered terrorists during a night patrol around Kwanar Kura in Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State on September 3.

The troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to retreat into nearby bushes. During the subsequent pursuit, soldiers rescued two people who had reportedly been kidnapped along the Dandume-Damari Road.

Two motorcycles were also recovered from the fleeing terrorists.

In a separate operation in Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2 rescued 23 abducted civilians during a fighting patrol around Wuya Town in Anka Local Government Area.

The rescued group comprised three men and 20 women. Preliminary information obtained from the victims indicated that they had been abducted from Gummi Local Government Area and spent about three weeks in captivity.

The victims were taken to a medical facility for treatment and later debriefed by the authorities.

Danja said the successful operations demonstrated the military’s continued commitment to protecting civilians, disrupting terrorist activities and rescuing people held captive.

He added that troops would maintain offensive operations across the Joint Operations Area in an effort to restrict the activities of terrorists and deny them freedom of movement.
