SHEHU SANI DECLARES SUPPORT FOR TINUBU, CRITICISES PETER OBI BACKERS OVER TRIBAL SENTIMENT

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Comrade Shehu Sani, has dismissed the growing support for former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing it as “drama” largely driven by ethnic sentiment.

Sani made the remarks during an appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, where he was featured alongside human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, in a discussion on Nigeria’s political climate and leadership direction.

According to him, the political space is dominated by familiar figures with similar ideological outlooks, arguing that a change in leadership may not necessarily translate into a fundamental shift in governance.

“The support for Peter Obi is drama. Many of those supporting him are driven by ethnic sentiments,” Sani said. “If Obi becomes President of Nigeria today, nothing changes. Everything remains the same.”

He further grouped Obi, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and President Bola Tinubu under what he described as a similar political and ideological class, insisting that Nigerians are often caught between familiar choices.

“They are people who share the same political thinking. Tinubu will win the 2027 elections. The choice we have is between Satan and the devil,” he added.

Sani also reflected on insecurity in previous administrations, recalling his time in the Senate during the Buhari government, when he frequently raised concerns about killings and kidnappings across the country.

“When Buhari was in power, the North was quiet while people were being slaughtered and kidnapped,” he said. “Each time I spoke about it, I was attacked by fellow Northern senators.”

His comments have since sparked renewed debate online, especially among supporters of opposition figures, as political discussions continue to intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
