President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, alongside a ₦15 billion take-off grant for its development.

According to a statement issued on Monday by presidential media aide Bayo Onanuga, the new campus is part of efforts to expand the Nigeria Police Academy located in Wudil, Kano State, into multiple campuses across the country as provided under the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021.
The funding for the project will be drawn from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) 2026 allocation and is expected to cover key infrastructure such as academic buildings, student accommodation, and essential training facilities.

The decision to locate the campus in Erinja was reached after consultations involving the Minister of Police Affairs, the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, officials of the Federal Ministry of Education, the Inspector-General of Police, and the National Universities Commission.
The government said the expansion is aimed at improving police training capacity, strengthening institutional development, and enhancing national security amid rising security challenges across the country.

The approval also aligns with ongoing reforms in the security sector, following the President’s earlier directive on increased recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force and the upgrading of training institutions nationwide.

In previous security measures, the administration had approved the recruitment of additional police officers and the conversion of some facilities, including NYSC camps, into temporary training centres to boost manpower and operational efficiency.

The latest move is expected to further expand training capacity and support the government’s broader efforts to address insecurity and improve policing standards in Nigeria.
