Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has formally reported Senate President Godswill Akpabio to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) over alleged sexual harassment and political victimization.
Speaking at the Women in Parliament session during the IPU meeting at the United Nations headquarters in New York, Akpoti detailed her ordeal, stating that her petition against Akpabio led to her illegal suspension from the Nigerian Senate.
“I submitted a petition of sexual harassment against the president of the Nigerian Senate, expecting a fair investigation. Instead, I was silenced, suspended for six months, and stripped of my security, salary, and official privileges,” she told the assembly.
She emphasized that her suspension represents a broader issue of gender-based exclusion in Nigerian politics, calling for international intervention.
Following her speech, Akpoti expressed concerns for her safety, alleging potential retaliation from powerful figures in Nigeria.
Her suspension, announced on March 6, 2025, prohibits her from accessing the National Assembly, receiving her salary, or presenting herself as a senator during the period. The decision followed tensions between her and Akpabio over seating arrangements in the Senate chamber.

The issue isn’t weather the accusations are true or not at this point. It is that the process for senate resolution of disputes wasn’t followed. And you can not be the judge in your own case.
