#Naira Abuse: EFCC Grills Iyabo Ojo Over Money Spraying at Daughter’s Wedding

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has interrogated Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo over the spraying of money at her daughter’s recent wedding ceremony.

Iyabo confirmed the development in a statement posted to her Instagram account on Tuesday.

The actress’s daughter, Priscilla Ojo, married Tanzanian singer Juma Jux in a lavish event last month. According to Iyabo, she received an invitation from the EFCC while she was in the United Kingdom and honored the invitation upon her return, appearing before the commission on Monday, May 5, 2025.

In her statement, she said EFCC officials questioned her on various matters, including her background, professional career, and the details surrounding her daughter’s wedding.

“I recently had an experience with the EFCC in Nigeria after receiving an invitation while I was in the UK,” she wrote. “Upon my return, I visited their office on May 5, where I was asked several questions relating to my personal data, career, and businesses.”

She revealed that EFCC officials showed her video footage from the wedding, where guests, including friends and colleagues, were seen spraying both naira and foreign currencies.

“I was asked if I knew that this was illegal. I responded that I believed only the abuse or mutilation of the naira was a criminal offense,” she added.

Iyabo expressed surprise upon learning that spraying foreign currencies, such as U.S. dollars, is also against the law. She advised Nigerians to refrain from such practices to avoid legal consequences.

“The EFCC made it clear that spraying money—whether naira or any foreign currency—especially on people’s bodies, is prohibited. I was honestly surprised to learn this. Based on this experience, I strongly advise against spraying any form of currency in Nigeria.”

Her interrogation comes days after the EFCC arrested popular businessman Emeka Okonkwo, popularly known as E-Money, on April 29 for similar allegations. He was reportedly picked up at his residence in Omole, Lagos, following the circulation of a viral video showing him spraying dollars at a public event—an act that violates the Foreign Exchange Act.
