Basola Jamiu Owodunni’s Future Hangs in the Balance – He Needs Our Voice

In 2017, Basola Jamiu Owodunni sat for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exam and gained admission into the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) to study Civil Engineering. He spent six and a half years navigating the rigorous demands of the course and graduated in 2024 with an impressive CGPA of 4.41.

Basola successfully completed his final exams, defended his project, and wrapped up his clearance – everything necessary for a legitimate graduation.

However, his dreams were abruptly halted.

JAMB is now claiming that his admission was not valid.

As a result:

  • His JAMB portal has been blocked.
  • The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has refused to mobilize him.
  • He was handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS) and the police.

This is despite:

  • His name being visible on JAMB’s Central Admission Processing System (CAPS).
  • The Vice Chancellor of FUTA personally reaching out to JAMB on his behalf.
  • The university itself verifying his admission status.

Basola is an orphan, with no parents to advocate for him. He has taken every step possible:

  • Visited JAMB offices,
  • Petitioned the Public Complaints Commission,
  • Appealed to Brekete Family,
  • And his university has sent several official letters.

Yet, nothing has changed.

Now, Basola’s future is suspended — not because he failed, but because a system refuses to acknowledge its error.

He’s not asking for favors, only for the right to benefit from the education he rightfully earned.

Let us raise our voices for Basola.

Let him serve. Let him live the future he worked for.
