Wike Took 11,000 Hectares from University of Abuja, Left Only 4,000 — Pro-Chancellor Alleges

Senator Olanrewaju Tejuoso, Pro-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, has raised serious concerns over the drastic reduction of the university’s land by the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Speaking during a recent stakeholder meeting, Tejuoso alleged that out of the 15,000 hectares originally allocated to the institution, Wike took over 11,000 hectares, leaving the university with just 4,000 hectares—half of which, he noted, is mountainous and largely unusable.

“Wike took 11,000 hectares from the University of Abuja and left only 4,000 hectares. Out of that, 2,000 hectares is actually a mountain,” the Pro-Chancellor stated.

He expressed concern that the reduction significantly undermines the university’s ability to expand its infrastructure and accommodate future growth. The land, originally allocated for long-term academic and developmental use, now leaves the university constrained.

The comments have sparked renewed debate over land administration policies in the FCT and raised questions about the prioritization of education-related land use in the capital territory.

As of the time of reporting, the FCT Administration has yet to respond to the allegations.
