Abuja, Nigeria — September 16, 2025
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to the country after his annual vacation in France, touching down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Presidential jet was received on arrival by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, and other senior government officials and dignitaries.
President Tinubu had earlier been expected to split his vacation between France and the United Kingdom but opted to remain in France, where he spent the entirety of his break. A highlight of the visit was a private lunch with French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron, signaling continued diplomatic engagement during his time away.
The President’s return comes as key national issues await his attention. Among them are:
The aviation tax waiver controversy, with stakeholders pushing for urgent reforms in the sector.
Escalating security concerns, particularly kidnappings, insurgency, and banditry across different regions.
Broader economic challenges, with the naira under pressure and living costs biting hard.
The Presidency has described the trip as a “well-deserved rest” following a demanding first year in office. However, analysts note that with pressing issues piling up, Tinubu’s return is seen as a pivotal moment.
Nigerians will now be watching closely as the President resumes duty, with expectations that his leadership will bring renewed focus and decisive action on matters of security, economy, and governance.
