Suhair Aliyu, a Lebanese woman, has accused Nigerian oil magnate Aliyu Abubakar, known as AA Oil, of abandoning her and her children after allegedly paying her ex-husband $1 million to divorce her. In an interview, Suhair recounted being forced into marriage at 15 to Ali Chawki El Cheikh, a Lebanese man who brought her to Nigeria. There, her husband introduced her to Abubakar, who gifted her a car, sparking changes in her marriage.
In January 2014, Abubakar allegedly informed Suhair of her divorce, showing her court documents and proposing marriage. She claims her ex-husband confirmed receiving $1 million from Abubakar, who also changed the surnames of her four children to his own. Suhair married Abubakar in mid-2014 and later gave birth to twins, but alleges he neglected her and the children, claiming he could not support “another man’s children.” She further accused Abubakar of having an affair with her daughter Zainab, one of the children he allegedly adopted.
Suhair faces eviction from their Abuja apartment after receiving a notice from Abubakar’s company, A Group International Ltd, demanding she vacate by December 10, 2025. Abubakar denied the allegations, claiming Suhair initiated her divorce and that he has financially supported her, including sending $10,000-$20,000 recently. He admitted to issuing the eviction notice due to her alleged rudeness but denied any affair with Zainab. Abubakar, previously investigated by the EFCC for money laundering tied to the Malabu oil deal, was cleared in 2024 court rulings.
