The Obidient Movement, supporters of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, has rejected claims that it endorsed Prof. Chukwuma Soludo for a second term as Anambra State Governor. A faction led by Ikenna Azomchine, the ‘Obidient General’ in Anambra, announced support for Soludo, citing his integrity, performance, and credibility as aligning with the movement’s values. Azomchine claimed the group assessed Soludo’s governance and decided to back him over the Labour Party’s candidate, Dr. George Moghalu, for the upcoming gubernatorial election. He further noted that many APGA members in Anambra, who supported Obi in 2023, outnumber Labour Party Obidients.
However, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, dismissed the endorsement as fraudulent, unauthorized, and misleading. The movement clarified it has only endorsed George Moghalu, as supported by Peter Obi, for the Anambra election scheduled for November 8, 2025. It emphasized its independence and commitment to integrity, accountability, and people-centered leadership, rejecting any claims of supporting other candidates as misrepresentations by individuals acting in a personal capacity.
The Obidient Movement condemned the misuse of its name, logo, or identity for personal or political gain, stating it does not engage in transactional politics. It remains focused on promoting competent and ethical leadership, with future political decisions, including for the 2027 presidential election, to be made collectively and communicated officially.
The Anambra governorship election will see about 2.8 million registered voters choose among candidates including Prof. Chukwuma Soludo (APGA), Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu (APC), Sir Paul Chukwuma (YPP), George Moghalu (LP), and John Nwosu (ADC).
