At least 19 bandits have been killed following a gun battle between Nigerian troops and terrorists in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State. Two soldiers and a local vigilante also lost their lives in the encounter.
The confrontation occurred on November 1, 2025, around Ungwan Tudu, Ungwan Tsamiya, and Goron Dutse after troops of the 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, supported by other security agencies, responded to an intelligence report about bandit movements in the area.

According to a statement by Captain Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, the soldiers engaged the attackers in a heavy exchange of fire and successfully repelled them.
“Troops deployed at Tsaure came in contact with the bandits, leading to a fierce gunfight. Our troops pursued the criminals and recovered several motorcycles and two mobile phones. Nineteen bandits were neutralized, while we lost two gallant soldiers and one local vigilante,” the statement read.

The Army said further operations are ongoing to secure nearby communities that have suffered frequent cattle rustling and attacks. It urged residents to remain alert and report suspicious activities to security agencies.

Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur, Commander of the 3 Brigade, assured citizens of the military’s commitment to maintaining peace and protecting lives and property in Kano State through close collaboration with other security agencies.
The latest operation highlights the ongoing security challenges in the North and the sacrifices made by Nigerian troops and local vigilantes in defending their communities from bandit attacks.
