Two dead and two others injured as train crushes tricycle in Plateau

Two people have been confirmed dead and two others injured after a train collided with a tricycle at the Dogon Karfe level crossing in Jos, Plateau State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when a train returning from Bukuru Station rammed into the tricycle, popularly known as keke NAPEP, after its operator allegedly tried to beat the train at the crossing.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) in Jos, Adamu Abdullahi, the driver ignored warnings from railway workers before the collision.

> “Our train was coming back from Bukuru Station when the tricycle driver, anxious to pass, refused to wait, and the train hit it,” Abdullahi said.

He confirmed that the tricycle operator and a male passenger died instantly, while two female passengers sustained injuries and are receiving treatment in the hospital.

Abdullahi added that NRC officials are always positioned at crossings to control movement and prevent such accidents but urged motorists to obey safety signals.

Authorities have appealed to road users to exercise caution and patience at rail crossings to avoid further tragedies.

The incident comes just three weeks after a dispatch rider was killed by a moving train at the PWD Railway Level Crossing in Ikeja, Lagos, after attempting to cross the tracks before the train passed.
