‘Remain vigilant’: Police, DSS, Army begin patrol of churches in FCT after Trump’s military threat

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched special patrol operations around churches and border communities as part of proactive security measures following directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye.

The development follows recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who accused Nigeria of alleged genocide against Christians and threatened to deploy U.S. forces if the government failed to act.

In a statement by FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the patrols—conducted on November 9, 2025—were carried out jointly by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Department of State Services (DSS), local hunters, and vigilante groups.

The operation covered major forest and border routes linking Bwari to Kaduna, Bwari to Niger, and Gwagwalada to Niger, running from 6:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. It was aimed at deterring criminal activity, safeguarding worship centres, and strengthening public confidence.

Church leaders in the affected areas were engaged and assured of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property. They were also advised to limit late-night gatherings, maintain communication with local security agencies, and report any suspicious movement.

CP Dantawaye also ordered the closure of identified access routes commonly used by criminal elements, while maintaining active surveillance across forested zones.

“The FCT remains safe, and the Command will continue to adopt dynamic strategies to ensure a crime-free environment for all,” Adeh stated.

Security agencies reiterated that public safety is a collective responsibility, urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate fully with authorities.
