President Tinubu Reacts to Kebbi Schoolgirls’ Kidnap and Borno General’s Death, Sends VP Shettima to State

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the recent abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba while on active duty in Borno. The president, fully briefed by military authorities, condemned both incidents as tragic setbacks in the nation’s ongoing fight against insecurity.

To provide support and reassurance, President Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to visit Kebbi State on Wednesday. Shettima’s mission will involve consoling the state government, meeting parents and guardians of the kidnapped students, and assuring swift government action for their safe return.

While acknowledging the efforts of Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris to prevent the kidnapping, the president lamented the security breach that allowed the incident to occur at the boarding school in Maga, Kebbi. He called on communities nationwide—particularly those in high-risk areas—to collaborate actively with the military, police, and the State Security Service by sharing intelligence that could prevent future attacks.

“As Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, I am deeply pained by the deaths of our gallant soldiers, including Brigadier General Musa Uba, who paid the ultimate price defending our nation. May God comfort their families,” Tinubu said.

He further condemned the disruption caused to the education of innocent schoolgirls, stressing that security agencies have been instructed to act swiftly to secure their release.

The president emphasized that the success of security operations depends heavily on the cooperation of citizens and local communities. “Our security forces cannot succeed if the people do not assist by providing vital information. I urge community leaders and compatriots, especially in conflict zones, to share any intelligence that can help protect lives and property,” he added.
