Troops, Police Sweep Forests in Search of Kidnapped Niger Students

Security agencies have launched a massive joint operation to locate and rescue students abducted from St. Mary Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State.

Spokesman of the Niger State Police Command, SP W. A. Abiodun, confirmed to DAILY POST that the attack happened in the early hours of Friday. According to him, armed men stormed the school around 2:00 a.m., breaking into the hostel and taking away an undisclosed number of students.

He explained that police tactical teams, military personnel, and other security units have already been deployed to the area and are combing surrounding forests to track down the kidnappers.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, assured that the Command is committed to ensuring the safe return of the students. He urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security operatives as the rescue mission continues.

This incident adds to a recent spike in terrorist and bandit attacks across several parts of Nigeria. The federal government recently suggested that some of the renewed violence may have been influenced by remarks made by former U.S. President Donald Trump, though this claim has not been substantiated.
