NESTOIL: Lagos State Police Debunks Allegations of Defying Court Order, Says Claim Is False and Mischief-Driven

The Lagos State Police Command has firmly refuted reports circulating in parts of the media alleging that the Commissioner of Police, CP Jimoh, defied a court order relating to the Nestoil premises. The Command described the claims as “untrue, unfounded and mischievous,” warning the public against being misled by individuals attempting to malign the integrity of the Police.

In a detailed statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Command clarified that the court order in question was duly received on 20 November 2025 at 5:50 p.m., promptly transmitted to its Legal Department for authentication, and confirmed by the issuing court the following day. Immediately after the confirmation was received on 21 November 2025, all police personnel earlier deployed to the premises were withdrawn without delay.

The Command described this swift action as evidence of the Commissioner’s unwavering respect for the rule of law. Contrary to the false claims, CP Jimoh—known for his adherence to legal procedures and strict professional discipline—never visited the Nestoil premises at any point on November 20 or 21.

Police: We Only Provide Protection, Not Seal Premises

The statement also addressed a critical point frequently misunderstood or deliberately distorted by mischief-makers: the Police have no legal authority to seal private or corporate premises. Their role, the Command emphasized, is limited to providing protection for Court Sheriffs and other authorized officers as they enforce court directives.

At no time, the Command clarified, did the Police obstruct or delay enforcement activities. Instead, their involvement was strictly in line with statutory responsibilities—maintaining order, protecting judicial officers, and ensuring peaceful compliance with lawful processes.

Commissioner Jimoh Praised for Professionalism and Quick Response

Observers familiar with the Commissioner’s leadership style note that CP Jimoh has built a reputation for strict compliance with legal standards and quick, decisive responses to sensitive matters. His tenure has been marked by heightened accountability, improved community relations, and a clear insistence that law enforcement officers remain impartial in civil and commercial disputes.

The Command’s timely handling of the Nestoil matter further reinforces this record. From the moment the court order was received to full compliance less than 24 hours later, the Police acted with transparency, diligence, and professionalism.

Legal analysts have also commended the Command’s approach. Given the sensitivity of court-related enforcement, the decision to verify authenticity before acting—and then immediately comply once confirmation was received—demonstrates institutional maturity and respect for due process.

Condemnation of Misleading Reports

The Command expressed concern over attempts by certain parties to drag the Police into controversies that have no bearing on their operational conduct. It condemned what it described as a “wicked attempt” to distort facts, incite public misunderstanding, and undermine confidence in the Police—an institution that plays an indispensable role in safeguarding lives, property, and civil order in Lagos.

Such misinformation, the Command warned, endangers not just public trust but also ongoing judicial processes. The Police urged all involved parties to focus on resolving their legal matters in court rather than manufacturing false narratives.

Public Urged to Disregard Falsehoods

The Lagos State Police Command called on citizens to disregard the misleading reports entirely, describing them as a deliberate smear campaign against a Commissioner and a Command dedicated to lawful conduct. It reassured Lagos residents that the Police remain “fully committed to upholding the rule of law, obeying court orders, and ensuring that all police actions conform strictly to due process.”

In a climate where misinformation can spread rapidly, the Command’s transparency stands as a reminder of the essential role credible policing plays in maintaining stability. The Lagos State Police reaffirmed that they will not be distracted by blackmail or attempts to tarnish their reputation, and will continue to serve the public with professionalism, integrity, and respect for the law.
