The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed recent media claims suggesting that the Commissioner of Police, CP Jimoh, ignored a court order concerning enforcement activities at the Nestoil premises. The Command described the allegations as baseless fabrications designed to mislead the public and unfairly tarnish the image of a law-abiding institution.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Command emphasized that it received the relevant court order at 5:50 p.m. on November 20, 2025, and acted with full compliance and professional diligence. The order was immediately forwarded to the Legal Department for verification—an essential procedural step to confirm authenticity. Once verification was completed the next evening, November 21, all officers at the premises were withdrawn without hesitation.

According to the Command, this swift and disciplined response demonstrates the Lagos Police’s unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law. Contrary to the misleading reports, CP Jimoh did not visit the Nestoil premises at any point during the dates mentioned and played no role outside the lawful boundaries of police responsibility.

Police Clarify Their Role: Protection Only, Not Sealing Premises
Addressing a widespread misconception, the Command reiterated that the Nigeria Police do not have the legal authority to seal private or corporate premises. Their statutory responsibility is limited to ensuring the safety of Court Sheriffs and other officers empowered by the judiciary to carry out enforcement actions.
“At no point did the Police obstruct or interfere with the lawful execution of judicial directives,” the statement affirmed. The Command insisted that its involvement remained strictly within constitutional guidelines—maintaining peace, preventing disorder, and supporting officers of the court during sensitive operations.

CP Jimoh: A Reputation Built on Accountability and Respect for the Law
Under CP Jimoh’s leadership, the Lagos Command has earned a reputation for professionalism, discipline, and unwavering respect for judicial institutions. His approach is widely regarded as firm yet lawful, anchored in transparent processes and quick, responsible decision-making.
The rapid response to the Nestoil order only reinforces this record. At a time when misinformation can quickly inflame public sentiment, the Commissioner’s insistence on due process stands out as an example of principled policing in Nigeria’s most complex and populous state.

Security analysts have often pointed to CP Jimoh’s leadership as a stabilizing factor in Lagos, noting his consistent insistence on neutrality in civil disputes and strict adherence to legal channels. The Command’s handling of the current matter reflects these qualities.
Command Condemns Deliberate Misinformation
The Lagos Police expressed strong concern over what it described as a coordinated attempt to drag the Command into private conflicts for reasons unrelated to policing. The false reports, the statement said, were crafted to misinform the public and sow distrust in an institution whose primary duty is to protect lives and property.

Such attempts, the Command warned, undermine public confidence and distort ongoing judicial processes. It urged all parties to refrain from weaponizing the media and to instead pursue their grievances through proper legal channels.
Public Urged to Ignore False Claims
In its concluding remarks, the Lagos State Police Command appealed to the public to dismiss the allegations entirely, describing them as “complete misrepresentation of facts” aimed at blackmailing the Police and diverting attention from the real issues at hand.

The Command reaffirmed its full commitment to lawful policing, strict observance of court directives, and consistent adherence to due process. It assured residents of Lagos that no amount of falsehood or malicious reporting will distract the Police from fulfilling their constitutional responsibilities with integrity and dedication.
