Six members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), reshaping the political balance in the state legislature.
The lawmakers, elected on the PDP platform, formally announced their defection, strengthening the APC’s presence in the Assembly.

Those who crossed over include Muktar Nasir Kaura (Kaura North), Nasiru Abdullahi Maru (Maru North), Amiru Ahmad Keta (Tsafe West), Bashar Aliyu Gummi (Gummi I), Bashir Abubakar Masama (Bukkuyum North), and Bashir Bello (Bungudu West).
The defection marks a significant shift in party alignment in Zamfara, as the APC continues to consolidate its influence within the legislature.

The development comes amid a broader wave of defections affecting the PDP nationwide. Recently, the party’s strength in the Rivers State caucus of the House of Representatives was reduced to two members after six lawmakers defected to the APC. The defectors cited internal divisions and unresolved crises within the PDP as reasons for their decision.

With the latest exits, the PDP continues to face growing challenges in retaining its elected officials, while the APC expands its dominance across legislative chambers.
