Defence HQ Says NW Airstrikes Highlight Nigeria-U.S. Resolve Against Terrorism
The Defence Headquarters has affirmed that recent airstrikes in Nigeria’s Northwest reflect the Federal Government’s firm commitment to combating terrorism, in partnership with the United States.
Maj.-Gen. Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Abuja, emphasizing that the operation was based on credible intelligence and designed to weaken terrorists’ operational capabilities while minimising collateral damage.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria, together with the United States, have successfully conducted precision strikes against identified foreign ISIS-linked elements operating in parts of North West Nigeria,” Uba said.
He added that the strikes were carried out with the approval of relevant authorities as part of ongoing efforts to eliminate terrorist and criminal threats to national security.
“The operation followed careful planning and actionable intelligence, aimed at degrading terrorist capacities while reducing risk to civilians,” he noted.

Uba said the strikes highlight the Federal Government’s determination, alongside strategic international partners, to confront transnational terrorism and prevent foreign fighters from establishing or expanding footholds in Nigeria.
“This action clearly demonstrates Nigeria’s unwavering resolve, in collaboration with key international partners, to tackle terrorism and prevent foreign fighters from gaining a foothold within our borders,” he added.
The Defence Information Director also reiterated the Armed Forces’ commitment to safeguarding lives and property nationwide.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria remain fully committed to protecting Nigerians and will continue to support joint, inter-agency, and international efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace and security across the country,” Uba said.
Earlier on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Nigeria continues to engage in structured security and intelligence cooperation with international partners, including the United States, to counter terrorism and violent extremism.
