INSECURITY: WE HAVE APPROACHED TURKEY FOR ASSISTANCE — FG

The Federal Government has sought Turkey’s support in addressing the country’s security challenges, following recent cooperation with the United States in combating insurgency.

President Bola Tinubu made this known on Friday while meeting a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), led by Archbishop Daniel Okoh, at his Lagos residence. He urged CAN to collaborate with his administration, noting that some security measures would take time to yield results.

> “The mood of the nation is peaceful, although our ungoverned spaces are so large. The challenge is real, but we will surmount it. Community and State Police will be a reality once the National Assembly completes the required legislative inputs. Our orders for four attack helicopters from the United States will take time to arrive. We have approached Turkey for assistance,” Tinubu said.

The development follows joint efforts between Nigeria and the US in tackling insecurity in the country.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) criticized the Federal Government for not briefing Nigerians before the US announcement of airstrikes, while Islamic cleric Sheikh Abubakar Gumi called for halting cooperation with the US and seeking help from neutral countries like China, Turkey, and Pakistan.
