NIGERIA’S NON- OIL EXPORT INCREASES BY 11M5% TO $6.1B

The Executive Director and CEO of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Nonye Ayeni, has revealed that Nigeria’s non-oil export performance in 2025 hit a record $6.1 billion, marking an 11.5 percent increase from the $5.46 billion recorded in 2024.

Ayeni made the disclosure during a press briefing in Abuja on the 2025–2026 non-oil export performance, describing the achievement as the highest value ever recorded in Nigeria’s documented formal trade since the Council’s inception. She noted that the milestone underscores the growing importance and resilience of the non-oil export sector to the national economy.

The NEPC CEO reiterated the council’s commitment to recalibrating and strategizing for even stronger future performance. “With this record-breaking achievement, Nigeria has once again surpassed its previous export milestone,” she said, highlighting that the council’s “Double Your Export” initiative continues to yield impressive results.

Ayeni pointed out that the figures do not capture informal exports passing through various borders. She added that NEPC is working closely with the National Bureau of Statistics, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and other stakeholders to better integrate informal trade into the formal system.

In terms of volume, total non-oil exports reached 8.02 million metric tons, a 10 percent increase over the 7.29 million metric tons recorded in 2024. This growth in both value and volume reflects increased activity across multiple value chains and international markets.

In 2025, Nigeria exported 281 non-oil products spanning agricultural commodities, processed and semi-processed goods, industrial inputs, and solid minerals, highlighting progress in value addition and diversification of products in global markets.

Ayeni further stated that Nigerian non-oil exports reached 120 countries, with the Netherlands accounting for 17.53 percent, Brazil 10.35 percent, and India 7.63 percent of total exports. The Netherlands saw a 32.46 percent increase in exports, including cocoa beans, cocoa butter, sesame seeds, and other products, while exports to Brazil rose by 19.07 percent.
