The Kogi State Government has ordered the closure of all primary and secondary schools across the state for two weeks.
As of the time of this report, officials have not provided an official explanation for the directive. However, there are indications that the move may be connected to ongoing security operations in the state.

A source said the decision could be aimed at preventing possible attacks on vulnerable locations, particularly schools.
“The development is to forestall any reprisal attack by bandits on soft targets such as schools,” the source stated.

In a message to members, the Kogi State Chairman of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Pastor Reuben Jimoh, said the government had brought forward the midterm break to serve as an emergency closure.
According to him, schools are to remain shut until February 16.

“The midterm break for school has been fast-forwarded and we shall be resuming back on 16/02/2026. Therefore, there will be no school until 16/02/2026. No school should go against this adjustment,” Jimoh said.
A separate notice circulated by one of the schools informed parents that the institution had received a directive to proceed on an emergency break, advising students to continue studying at home while awaiting further communication on resumption.

The Public Relations Officer of the state Ministry of Education, Solomon Musa, confirmed the closure but declined to state the reason for the sudden action.
