ATIKU, MAKINDE HOLD CLOSED-DOOR MEETING AT BABANGIDA’S RESIDENCE

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, held a closed-door meeting with former Military President General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd) at his Hilltop residence in Minna, Niger State.

Atiku arrived at Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport, Minna, accompanied by some chieftains of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), including the Assistant National Youth Leader (North Central), Hassana Shuibu Dada. He proceeded directly to Babangida’s residence.

Governor Makinde arrived at the same location a few minutes after Atiku.

Details of the discussions remain undisclosed, but speculation suggests the meeting may relate to preparations for the 2027 general elections and opposition strategies.

After the session, Atiku left Babangida’s residence while Governor Makinde stayed behind.

Speaking briefly with journalists, Atiku called on opposition political parties to unite and vigorously pursue the full implementation of electronic transmission of election results, warning against complacency.

He expressed disappointment with the recent amendment to the Electoral Act passed by the Senate, describing it as a mix of electronic and manual transmission that could lead to confusion and chaos.

“Nigerians were expecting a real-time electronic transfer at various levels of elections, but what we got is a mixture of electronic and manual transmission of elections, which, of course, will cause more confusion or chaos,” Atiku said.

When asked about zoning in the ADC, Atiku clarified that the party’s constitution does not include a zoning arrangement, unlike the PDP. He criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling it a “party of forgers” that has manipulated certificates and age limits.

Atiku stated that contesting the 2027 elections is not his personal priority. As an ADC member, his focus is on building strong party structures at ward, local government, and national levels while mobilising and registering new members.

On his visit to Babangida, he described it as a private courtesy call to an elder statesman he regularly visits to pay respects.

Governor Makinde declined to speak with journalists after the meeting.
