SENEGAL REJECTS CAF VERDICT, MOVES TO APPEAL

The Senegalese Football Federation has rejected the decision by the Confederation of African Football Appeal Board that awarded the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title to Morocco, confirming plans to challenge the ruling at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Morocco were declared champions on Tuesday after CAF overturned the result of the final against Senegal, ruling that the West African side forfeited the match following a walk-off during the game in Rabat on January 19. CAF subsequently awarded a 3–0 victory to the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football.

The decision came after Morocco lodged a protest over chaotic scenes late in the final, when Senegalese players briefly left the pitch following a disallowed goal and a penalty awarded to the hosts. The Appeal Board ruled that the action violated Articles 82 and 84 of the competition regulations relating to misconduct and forfeiture.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Senegalese federation said it had taken note of the ruling but strongly disagreed with the outcome. It explained that the appeal board overturned an earlier decision by CAF’s Disciplinary Board on the grounds that Morocco’s right to be heard was not respected during the initial proceedings.

Despite this, the federation criticised the final verdict, describing it as damaging to the credibility of African football.

“The Senegalese Football Federation denounces an unfair, unprecedented and unacceptable decision that discredits African football,” the statement said.

The body confirmed it would take the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland, to defend its position and protect the interests of Senegalese football.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to due process and sporting integrity, stating that it would keep the public informed as the case progresses.
