The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has restated the commitment of security agencies to maintain peace and order as political activities gather momentum ahead of party primaries in the state.
Speaking after a security meeting held on Tuesday in Lafia, Mohammed urged political actors to ensure that their activities remain peaceful, stressing that democracy can only thrive in an atmosphere free of violence and intimidation.
He said elections are a normal part of democratic life, but warned that they must not be turned into a source of crisis or division among citizens.

According to him, all political parties and their supporters must conduct themselves responsibly and avoid any actions or statements that could trigger unrest.
He also cautioned against violence, unlawful gatherings, thuggery, and other activities capable of disrupting public peace, noting that security agencies would not hesitate to act against offenders.
“The era of sponsoring violence, whether directly or indirectly, will not be tolerated,” he said, adding that anyone found wanting—regardless of political or social status—will be investigated and prosecuted.
The police commissioner also frowned at the growing use of hate speech and misinformation, describing them as dangerous tools that can inflame tensions and destabilise communities.

He advised political parties to follow due process in organising campaigns and rallies, including obtaining necessary approvals and respecting opposing parties’ rights to campaign freely.
Mohammed further appealed to young people not to allow themselves to be used as instruments of violence, warning that such actions could ruin their future.
He assured residents that security agencies are fully prepared, united, and on alert to ensure a safe and secure environment throughout the electioneering period, while guaranteeing fairness to all political actors.
He concluded by stressing that peace is a collective responsibility, calling on politicians, community leaders, and citizens to work together to sustain stability across Nasarawa State.
