The Kano State House of Assembly has approved the appointment of Murtala Garo as the new Deputy Governor, following the adoption of a report presented by an ad hoc screening committee.
The 12-member committee, led by Deputy Speaker Bello Butubutua, submitted its findings during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Jibril Falgore. The report confirmed that Garo met all requirements after a detailed screening process.
According to the committee, Garo’s academic qualifications, work experience, and personal background were carefully reviewed in line with the Assembly’s procedures, and he was found fit for the role.
The nomination was initially sent to the Assembly by Governor Abba Yusuf on April 22, in accordance with constitutional provisions that allow a governor to appoint a deputy in the case of a vacancy.
At 48, Garo is regarded as a seasoned public servant with over 20 years of experience in governance. His appointment follows the resignation of former Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo in March 2026.
