He made the appeal during a meeting with a delegation from Airbus at the Africa CEO Forum in Kigali, Rwanda, where discussions also centered on defence cooperation and aviation development.

Tinubu said modern military aircraft, including attack helicopters and fixed-wing platforms, are critical to improving Nigeria’s security architecture and supporting ongoing counterterrorism efforts.

The President specifically urged Airbus to fast-track the delivery of three Apache helicopters already procured by Nigeria, noting that strengthening the country’s air power remains a top national priority.

Beyond defence needs, Tinubu also welcomed Airbus’ proposal to establish aircraft maintenance and hangar facilities in Nigeria, describing it as a strategic move that could position the country as a regional hub for aviation services.

The proposed partnership also includes discussions around the Airbus C-295 aircraft platform, aircraft leasing arrangements, and long-term financing models to support Nigeria’s aviation sector.

According to the proposal, financing options such as export credit systems and lease-back structures are being explored to improve access to aircraft and reduce financial pressure on operators.

The President also suggested the creation of a local aviation leasing company to expand opportunities within the sector and improve aircraft acquisition and management.

Airbus representatives praised Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting both military and civilian aviation development in the country.

The partnership framework is also expected to extend into satellite technology, aerospace training, and broader aviation infrastructure development.
