The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2026, in observance of Memorial Day.
The announcement was made by the U.S. Mission in Nigeria in a post shared on its official X handle on Sunday.
Memorial Day is a U.S. federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May each year to honour American military personnel who died while serving their country.

In its statement, the mission said, “The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2026, in observance of Memorial Day—a U.S. federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May in honour of U.S. military personnel who lost their lives in service of their country.”
During the closure, routine consular services, visa processing, and American citizen services will not be available.
Applicants with scheduled appointments have been advised to monitor official communication channels for possible rescheduling updates or to reach out once normal operations resume.
