A proposed heavyweight showdown between Anthony Joshua and Moses Itauma in Nigeria has been described as a potential global spectacle that could eclipse the legendary “Rumble in the Jungle” by boxing promoter Dr. Ezekiel Adamu.
Joshua is preparing to face Kristian Prenga on July 25 before a possible all-British clash with Tyson Fury, while unbeaten prospect Moses Itauma is scheduled to take on Croatian heavyweight Filip Hrgovic on August 29.
Speaking on the possibility of a future contest between the two British fighters of Nigerian heritage, Adamu said staging the bout in Nigeria would attract massive global attention and celebrate their shared roots.
He noted that Africa’s large and youthful population, combined with the international popularity of both fighters, would make the event one of the biggest in boxing history.
According to Adamu, a Joshua-Itauma fight on Nigerian soil could generate greater worldwide interest than the iconic 1974 bout between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman in Zaire, now the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
He also expressed optimism that Joshua, a former two-time world heavyweight champion, would be open to the idea before retiring from professional boxing.
Adamu added that Joshua remains determined to reclaim the undisputed heavyweight title and continue competing after his expected fight with Tyson Fury, making a future clash with Itauma a realistic possibility.
