National Patriots questioned the consistency of Obi’s earlier remarks about presidential stamina following his campaign’s explanation that he needs rest

The reported exhaustion of Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has revived scrutiny of his earlier public statements questioning President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s energy and capacity to govern.

The controversy follows an explanation by Dr Sam Omale, deputy spokesperson of the NDC presidential campaign council, who disclosed on November 3 that Obi had experienced exhaustion following demanding travel and political engagements.
Omale said the former Anambra State governor needed adequate rest but remained in good health. The party’s national publicity secretary, Osa Director, subsequently said he was unaware of any health difficulty involving Obi.
The development has attracted attention because Obi had previously invoked fatigue as part of his criticism of President Tinubu.
During an interview on Channels Television on July 26, Obi described the president as tired and called for his retirement. He also questioned Tinubu’s capacity to address Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.
Those remarks formed part of Obi’s wider criticism of the administration’s performance, particularly on poverty, insecurity, and economic management.
However, the NDC’s latest explanation has introduced a notable contrast between Obi’s earlier political language and the demands of his own presidential campaign.

NATIONAL PATRIOTS: THE IRONY OF KARMA
Reacting to the development, the National Patriots described the situation as an example of the political irony often associated with the expression karma.
The organisation questioned whether the language previously used to assess President Tinubu would be considered equally appropriate when directed at Obi.
The Patriots argued that politicians who repeatedly question an opponent’s stamina should anticipate scrutiny when similar questions arise concerning their own schedules and public engagements.
The organisation also distinguished between the political meaning of karma and the medical cause of exhaustion. In this context, karma describes the irony of Obi’s earlier words returning to public debate rather than a claim that his statements caused his fatigue.

The National Patriots said the episode raises a broader question about consistency in political criticism: should a politician’s temporary exhaustion be interpreted differently depending on whether that politician belongs to the government or the opposition
The group maintained that Nigerians are entitled to examine the records, policies, and public statements of all presidential aspirants, including the standards they apply when assessing one another.
While Obi’s campaign has attributed his exhaustion to extensive travel and engagements, the organisation observed that his earlier criticism of Tinubu remains part of the public record and is therefore open to examination.
The National Patriots concluded that political discourse should be guided by consistent standards and that judgments about leadership capacity should ultimately rest on demonstrated performance and credible evidence, not age and speculations on health status.
Karma has caught up with Pitobi, and we wish him the recovery he deserves!
