EX-FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTER TUGGAR, BALA WUNTI CRASH OUT OF APC GOVERNORSHIP PRIMARY, FAIL TO SECURE TICKET

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Bauchi State has produced former Governor Mohammed Abubakar as the party’s candidate for the 2027 election, following a closely contested exercise that saw several prominent aspirants defeated.

Among those who lost the ticket were former Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar and former NNPC Limited official Bala Maijama’a Wunti, both of whom were unable to secure enough votes at the primary.

The election, which experienced delays before results were finally announced, was conducted under the supervision of a committee led by retired Assistant Inspector General of Police John Abang.

According to the official results, Mohammed Abubakar emerged winner with 57,517 votes, defeating Tuggar who polled 26,001 votes. Other contenders, including Nura Manu Soro and Wunti, also recorded significant but insufficient vote totals in a crowded field of aspirants.

Other participants such as Kabir Baba Ma’aji, Baba Abubakar Suleiman, and Yakubu Yakubu Abdullahi also contested but trailed behind in the final tally.

Abubakar’s victory marks a political comeback, as he previously served as governor of Bauchi State before losing his re-election bid in 2019 to incumbent Governor Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The result comes amid broader political realignments within the APC, including the resignation of some political office holders earlier designated to step down due to ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.

Party officials have yet to comment on the outcome beyond the official declaration of results.
