INEC ANNOUNCES RESUMPTION OF CONTINUOUS VOTER REGISTRATION

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will resume the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise for its third and final phase on Monday, May 11, 2026, as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The update was shared in a statement issued in Abuja by Malam Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee.

According to the commission, the second phase of the exercise was paused on April 17 to allow for a clean-up of the voter register following its publication for claims and objections.

INEC said the final phase will run from May 11 to July 10, 2026. During this period, Nigerians who have turned 18 or missed earlier registration opportunities are encouraged to register. The commission also advised already registered voters who need to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or correct personal details to take advantage of the exercise.

Eligible citizens can complete the process through INEC’s online portal or by visiting INEC offices at the state and local government levels across the country.

The commission also announced that the updated voter register will be displayed for public scrutiny between July 23 and July 29, 2026. This stage allows Nigerians to raise claims or objections, helping to ensure the register is accurate and credible.

INEC assured the public that all necessary arrangements have been put in place for a smooth process and urged citizens to participate actively, stressing that voter registration remains a key step in strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process.
