INEC CHAIRMAN REOPENS NATIONWIDE VOTER REGISTRATION MONDAY

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the resumption of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, marking its third and final phase ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the commission, the exercise will begin on Monday, May 11, 2026, and run until Friday, July 10, 2026.

In a statement issued by the Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, INEC noted that the process was temporarily suspended on April 17, 2026, to allow for the cleanup and verification of the voter register following claims and objections submitted by registrants.

The commission explained that the upcoming phase is aimed at giving eligible Nigerians another opportunity to register and participate in the electoral process.

“During this period, eligible citizens who have attained the age of 18, as well as those who were unable to register during the earlier phases, should seize this opportunity to do so,” the statement read.

INEC also advised registered voters who wish to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards, or correct their personal details to use its online portal or visit any of its state or local government offices nationwide.

The commission further announced that the voter register will be displayed for public scrutiny from Thursday, July 23 to Wednesday, July 29, 2026, to allow citizens to raise objections or corrections where necessary.

It described the exercise as an important step in ensuring the accuracy and credibility of the national voter register.

INEC assured Nigerians that all arrangements have been concluded for a smooth and efficient process, urging eligible citizens to take full advantage of the opportunity to register and strengthen the country’s democratic process.
