Lagos State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Tolani Sule, has stated that the ministry did not carry out the renovation of any public secondary school library in 2025, despite budget performance records indicating that more than N300 million was spent on such projects.

Speaking during the 2026 ministerial press briefing commemorating the third anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office, Sule denied claims that the ministry renovated 70 and 50 school libraries as reflected in official budget documents.
The commissioner also revealed that the Lagos State Government, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, is pushing forward plans to establish a University of Medicine and Health Sciences aimed at addressing the shortage of healthcare workers in the state and across Nigeria.

According to him, the proposed institution will help train more doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals, especially as the country continues to experience the migration of healthcare personnel abroad.
Sule noted that Lagos requires a larger healthcare workforce to cater to its rapidly increasing population, adding that the university project is designed to improve healthcare services and close existing manpower gaps.

He further stated that state-owned tertiary institutions in Lagos have maintained stable academic calendars for more than 10 years, which he described as a reflection of the government’s commitment to educational stability and staff welfare.
The commissioner highlighted ongoing partnerships with international and private organisations, including the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology and PowerChina, to improve technical and vocational education in Lagos.

He explained that the collaborations would provide students with exposure to global standards in engineering, renewable energy, vocational training, and applied technology.
Sule also mentioned that the state had expanded digital empowerment initiatives under programmes such as Eko Digital and Job Initiative Lagos, where many students were trained in digital literacy, artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, and emotional intelligence.
In addition, he said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu rewarded Miss Isioma Sybil Nwosu with N10 million for emerging as the overall best graduating student of Lagos State University during the 2023/2024 academic session.
