President Bola Tinubu has commended the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) and the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) for their contributions to strengthening Nigeria’s fertiliser system, improving access for farmers, boosting local production, and supporting the government’s food security drive.
He said the initiatives under the Presidential Fertiliser Initiative, now coordinated through MOFI, along with the Renewed Hope Farm Input Support Programme managed by NADF, reflect the administration’s commitment to making food security a central part of its national agenda.

Tinubu noted that the government promised to prioritise food security, support farmers, reduce reliance on imports, and build a more resilient agricultural sector capable of withstanding global shocks, adding that these goals are being actively pursued.
He explained that global supply disruptions and rising input costs, worsened by international conflicts, had threatened food production and prices, prompting Nigeria to adopt early strategic measures across the fertiliser value chain.

Through MOFI, the government improved procurement processes, secured essential raw materials, established forward supply agreements, and strengthened coordination within the fertiliser system, helping to protect local blending plants from global market pressures.
By May 2026, over 449,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser inputs—about nine million bags—had been secured, with several shipments already delivered or in transit. Nigeria is also projected to achieve a 1.1 million-metric tonne fertiliser programme in 2026, equivalent to roughly 22 million bags nationwide.
The administration also recorded savings of about N61.58 billion in 2026 through improved contracting strategies for fertiliser inputs, making the product more affordable for farmers.

Tinubu further highlighted that Nigeria now has over 90 active fertiliser blending plants, the highest in Sub-Saharan Africa, supporting local manufacturing, jobs, and agricultural resilience.
While MOFI focuses on strengthening supply and production, NADF is responsible for last-mile distribution, ensuring fertiliser reaches smallholder farmers at the right time for planting.

He praised NADF for distributing over 515,720 bags of locally produced fertiliser to 128,930 smallholder farmers across 25 states and the Federal Capital Territory during the current planting season.
Tinubu also noted efforts to support farmers through digital advisory services, improved fertiliser usage guidance, and targeted support for key crops such as rice, maize, cassava, and soybean.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening agriculture, protecting farmers, improving productivity, and stabilising food prices, stressing that ongoing efforts will continue to secure Nigeria’s food future.
